Staying in Your Lane

The phrase ‘Stay in Your Lane’ is a common expression you hear a lot these days on social media, but what does it really mean? Well, it can mean a lot of different things such as: minding your own business, focusing on you, doing what you are good at, sticking to what you know, being true to you, or sticking to your field of expertise. But basically, it means do you, be you and don’t try to be something you’re not. Don’t waste your time following the crowds. Don’t compare yourself to others. Your lane can also be synonymous with your passion, doing what you love to do, offering something only you can offer or contribute, walking to the beat of your own drum. That is your lane. Sometimes in life we all try to be things we are not. We try to fit into roles not made for us, or we dumb ourselves down to fit in with a certain peer group. In this earthly existence it’s important to be you and also allow others to stay in their own unique lanes and be themselves too—giving others space to grow without telling them how to do it. And this goes for our friends, family members, children, spouses, or significant others. Whenever we try to get others to fit into our ideas, our plans, or into a version we have created in our minds, we can blur the lines and push them out of their lanes—lanes they are meant to fit in.

Truthfully each of our lives is singular in some ways and we are not meant to all be the same. We are not meant to walk in unison with others all the time. We are meant to carve out our unique paths and walk them, to accomplish our unique goals and missions. We all have a unique lane to stay in, a unique path to walk, a unique way of going about our lives and we should be true to that. Oprah said, “My lane is evolving the consciousness of people.” To know what your lane is and stay in it, is to stay in your power. As you Stay in Your Lane and do you, you are able to effect positive change in the world. We only feel out of sync with the Universe and disconnected to our higher power when we are not being true to ourselves and are living outside of our lanes. So let this be a sign to you, a gentle reminder to stay focused on your unique potential, your unique gifts and qualities. And whenever you are tempted to stray outside of your lane, stay focused, take heart and remember, there is great power in Staying in Your Lane. Staying in Your Lane is staying in your God given capacity, in your unique dharma. It is you expressing yourself in the way you were meant to do so, being totally organically you. And when you live this way it adds rich color, texture and vibrancy to your life.
